Studio Calico Sandlot Reveal
I am still in a very relaxed mood from being away on the weekend. It's been only a short two and a half days but I realized just how much I missed wandering around unknown places, taking some photos for nothing but my very own pleasure, eating out and all-around enjoying some carefree moments. So much I didn't noticed my should-be scheduled post didn't really actually go up… but here you go!
In case you don't now, the 27th is reveal day at Studio Calico which means I am able to share some cards I made with their latest kits. Kits arrived unusually late this time so I had little time to play but, anyway, I had so much fun digging through the supplies and picking favorites.
The first thing I did this time was playing with the digital file that Paige Evans designed. I mean just look at that geometric background pattern...
I have a classic grey washi tape with this pattern on and even bought a similar Ikea linen earlier this year - both favorites. Making a spray mask from the cut file was a given in my book. The card base ended up on this cute teacher card:
I combined the background with Color Theory sequins in Coral Bay and a stamped banner from a new stamp set called Teacher's Pet. The "teacher" die-cut? Well, that Paper Sushi girl and her work for Studio Calico… love it! The patterned paper strips are from the Sandlot main card kit.
Next up, is a card made from the card add-on Squint. I tried my hands on a modern version of a sympathy card with clean lines and some watercoloring. There's a 4x6 stamp set included which has some beautiful layered flowers in there. I had colored them with the Neocolor II crayons and lightly brushed a little water on to stamp the flowers on watercolor paper.
I like how soft the flower image turned out and how the base stamp ran a little and made it more artistic looking. When everything was dry, I stamped a sentiment from the same 4x6 set and sew everything down on the patterned paper.
Of course I also made a main card kit only card. Shanna designed two gorgeous spiral patterns for the paper pad and I decided to make one my focal point for a card. With just two other papers layered underneath and a Copic colored stamped sentiment this card is fast to make and something which also beginners could successfully recreate without a lot of embellishments.
And than, there was the gumball machine stamp. Yes! Gumball. Machine. Stamp!! I was nearly jumping with joy and completely giddy when I first saw the Creative Team kit sneak. Judging from the comments, I wasn't the only one :)
The card is a combination of supplies from the main card kit (the card base, acetate, twine and stamps) and the card kit add-on (the enamel dots and large shipping tag). I first stamped the gumball machine in Color Theory Well-Red ink on the shipping tag, then cut out the "glass" with a craft knife to back it with a piece of acetate from the card main. To make the acetate stay put and add some texture to card, I attempted to sew around the whole image. Well, after some fine minutes of hand cranking the sewing machine, the outline had to do… ;) Finally, the enamel dots made for a fun gumball surrogate behind the tag. If you want to try this, just make sure you sketch the window on a piece of cardstock and stick the enamel dots a little over the line for a more realistic look.
