Fall Birthday Card

How is it fall already? The card I share today is one that my mom commissioned a while ago for a birthday. It’s a very simple and replicable design with multiples of the same die-cut for the background. It’s a very replicable style that I shamelessly copied from the fabulous Amy Yingling (aka the woman behind The Stamp Market). A few sprinkles of pearlescent spray paint and glitter paper aded a little bling to this otherwise really simple card.

Colorful Birthday Card

When I started this hobby, I was all about stamping and now look at today’s card - it’s 100 % made from die-cuts and cardstock. I used a bunch of the same leaf die and grouped them underneath a simple circle mat. I purposely didn’t pop out all of the die-cut pieces to give the design some variation and add interest. A dot of liquid glue on the card base helps to keep the pieces in place.

Have you changed your style or favorite techniques much since the time you first into paper crafting?

CAS Congratulations

Do you love a layered look on cards? I know I do though this can look a little cluttered at times. The little number I’m getting to share with you today is the opposite. Although there are four layers, they are very subtle. We have a lightly patterned Project Life card as the mat for our focal point, a die cut from an old patterned paper, and two layers of the some leaf die-cut - once cut from vellum and once from a canvas style, textured paper. And because I could help myself, I also added a “layer” of cream colored sequins and machine stitching on top.

Apart from the layers, what also adds interest in my opinion, is the contrast of the organic, round leaf shape with the geometric pattern in the background. What’s your favorite way of adding contrast? Do you enjoy layering, rather keep it clean & simple, or combine both?
